SACRED HEART COMMUNICATIONS
Sacred Heart Communications was established in 1998 in the Diocese of Charlotte, NC. We are a lay organization dedicated to spreading the knowledge, love, and practice of the Roman Catholic Faith by means of radio. In response to the call of the Second Vatican Council to the laity to evangelize through the use of radio, our programming content will be in English/Spanish therefore primarily catechetical, devotional, and inspirational.

We are a listener supported 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.


BOARD OF DIRECTORS


BRION BLAIS, PRESIDENT

Brion graduated from University of Portland, Oregon, in 1981, and in a series of work-related moves, Brion and family moved to Charlotte in 1997 with OfficeMax, Inc. He served for 12 years as General Manager of sales and operations in Ohio, Georgia, and the Carolinas. He is currently Director of Sales in the Carolinas for all B2B channels. In 1991, while still in Portland, Brion became involved in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, and developed a keen interest in apologetics and Catholic radio as a tool for evangelization. He taught Bible classes for three years at his parish, St. Gabriel. Brion and Patty have three grown children and one grandchild.

RICHARD E. TOMLINSON, VICE PRESIDENT

Dick has had a career that has been split primarily between Securities/Investment business, and Broadcasting. His Broadcast experience includes:

* Local television sales, KDKA Pittsburgh
* National TV sales: Westinghouse Broadcasting, Detroit office
* VP national sales, Westinghouse Broadcasting, Chicago
* Jefferson Pilot Broadcasting Director Sales, Marketing, and Research
* VP General Manager, WJAR-TV, Providence R.I.
* Owner/operator, 3 radio stations: 1 – Charlotte, NC; 2 – Augusta, GA.


Currently, Managing Partner, Triune Capital Advisors, Charlotte, NC.


Mr. Tomlinson belongs to St Gabriel Parish.

GRACE NARUS, SECRETARY

Grace Narus has over ten years experience in the computer industry beginning with Microsoft Corporation in 1986. She helped introduce the computerization of the printing industry through desktop publishing while at Aldus Corporation (now Adobe) as a Sales Rep in NC/SC. Grace and her husband Jim moved to Winston-Salem, NC from Cleveland, OH, so Jim could teach at Wake Forest University in the MBA program. They moved to Charlotte in 1996 when WFU opened a satellite MBA campus. They are currently members of St Vincent de Paul parish in Charlotte and have two sons. Grace also serves on the Promotions and Marketing Committee.

BOB LOUGHLIN, TREASURER

Bob is a retired cost accountant for National Gypsum Company. He was a member of Friends of EWTN which successfully brought EWTN to the Charlotte area via Time Warner Cable in 1995. He serves on the Board of Directors of Blessed Sacrament Academy. He is active in his parish of St. Matthew in RCIA, Choir, Eucharistic Adoration, and is currently a facilitator in the Why Catholic? program.


COMMITTEE MEMBERS


ROBERT & ANGELES MURPHY, PROGRAMMING

Robert was ordained a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Charlotte and was assigned to St Mark Parish in June, 2006 and works with the Hispanics at St Mark. He & his wife Angeles have four grown children and four grandchildren. Robert and Angeles are bi-lingual having met & married in Madrid, Spain in 1963. Robert is a US Air Force Veteran; avionics technician and Vietnam veteran. While in the USAF Robert saw duty in the USA, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Living in Charlotte since 1971, Robert & Angeles have been active in both OLA and St Mark Parishes. Robert was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 11102 at OLA, later became a charter member of Council 12654 at St Mark and is a member of the Knights 4th Degree Assembly #2417. Robert is a retired computer programmer analyst that did consulting assignments at various locations in the Southeast.

DON RAUCH, PROGRAMMING COMMITTEE

Don has been in Communications since graduating from the University of Detroit. He has advised retail clients (McDonald's, Texaco, Jiffy Lube) while in the advertising agency business in NY, Chicago and Houston. Prior to that he worked in television at WPIX-TV, NYC and was Production Manager for WICZ-TV in Binghamton, NY. In 1997 he joined Meineke Car Care Centers, Inc.to guide their marketing/advertising efforts. Don was the founding VP for the Ronald McDonald House in Galveston, TX and has been actively involved in the parishes where he and wife Mary Ellen have lived. They have two grown children and a grandson.

DIANNE KIRK-CORBITT, PROGRAMMING

The female "VOICE" of Sacred Heart Communications, Dianne with her husband, Steve, moved to Charlotte from Little Rock Arkansas in 2003. Dianne has a Masters degree in Journalism from the University of Arkansas with an undergraduate degree in Mass Communications from Illinois University. Dianne has held various positions in the Communications Industry over the past fifteen years including Station Director, Sales and Promotions Manager, Asst Manager, and DJ with several Christian radio stations. Dianne was a protestant for 20 years before becoming a Catholic convert in 1998. Dianne and Steve have two stepsons and one grandchild. They are currently members of St Matthew Parish.

JEFF SUMERACKI, PROGRAMMING

Jeff Sumeracki, the male "VOICE" of Sacred Heart Communications, grew up in Redford, Michigan and joined the Navy soon after graduating high school. There he was trained to service ship-based advanced electronics, weapons and radar. After his military service, he migrated to medical service and has worked for ADAC and Philips Medical. He is currently a Field Service Engineer with Absolute Imaging Solutions, maintaining and repairing nuclear medicine gamma cameras throughout the Carolinas. Jeff is a cantor and sings bass in the choir at St. Mark Catholic church in Huntersville, and has served on Pastoral Council. Jeff lives in Concord, NC, with his wife Mary and three children.

MIMI BOYD, PROMOTIONS AND MARKETING

Mimi Boyd is a Charlotte native. Her broadcasting career started in radio sales and is highlighted throughout with acting in local, regional, and national television commercials and voicing radio spots. Mimi also hosted her own radio show that was based out of Tampa, FL, and broadcast on the world wide web. She is currently an Account Manager at Radio One in Charlotte. Mimi received the blessed Sacraments of Baptism, Confession, Holy Communion, and Confirmation at Saint Gabriel Church where she has been a life-long member.

LISA BASSE, INTERCESSORY PRAYER

Lisa Basse has lived in Charlotte since 2003 when here & her husband AJ moved from NYC. They along with their two sons are parishioners at St Vincent de Paul Parish. AJ is a graduate from West Point and has an MBA from Columbia Business School. AJ is currently Vice President with Wachovia’s Energy & Power Banking Group after spending three years with Wachovia Media & Communications banking team. Lisa is a graduate of Pace University with a B.A. in Psychology. Lisa is a stay-at-home mother with two sons and is an active member in her parish and Catholic community.

ASHEVILLE

GEORGE PFAFF, CHAIRMAN-ASHEVILLE RADIO COMMITTEE

George & his wife retired to Asheville in 2004; formerly from Albany, NY, George received his BS Chemical Eng from Notre Dame ‘49 and MBA-Wharton ’51; George served in the Navy in WWII; George moved up the ranks of several major high tech multinational corporations in his career; and also became a full-time management consultant and lecturer at SUNY, Albany. His last 17 working years were spent in banking. George has served on many boards including Past President of the Albany Medical Center; George and his wife, Jane, are members of St. Eugene Parish in Asheville. They have two children, four grandchildren, the eldest carrying on the tradition of graduating from Notre Dame in 2005.

CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF CHARLOTTE

David Hains, Director of Communications

Sacred Heart Communications and the Catholic Diocese are working together to promote the goals of both groups, the goals of which are much the same. David Hains is willing to assist Sacred Heart Communications with his knowledge of the media and communications industry gained from an extensive working relationship in the Charlotte area.

THE CATHOLIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, INC.

Ken Davison, Director of College Relations, Belmont Abbey College

Sacred Heart Communications and Belmont Abbey College will continue to work together to explore mutual benefits to a 24/7 radio station. We hope there will be an opportunity to work toward the possibility of student internships and other components of mutual affiliation with Catholic radio.

THE CATHOLIC RADIO ASSOCIATION

Steve Gajdosik, Executive Director

According to Steve Gajdosik, "the mission of the Catholic Radio Association is to help draw people to Jesus Christ and his holy Church through expediting the establishment of, guiding the operation of and offering critical services to Catholic radio stations," and to see that there are "faithful Catholic radio stations broadcasting to every diocese throughout the United States." The Catholic Radio Association will continue to provide Sacred Heart Communications the needed resources and guidance to an independent radio station up and running.
