History and Vision
Sacred Heart Communications began in 1998 when a group of men were given the inspiration by the Holy Spirit at a Cursillo Men's weekend to pursue building a Catholic radio station in the Diocese. They worked tirelessly, seemingly without any effect, until 2005 when a reinvigorated group approached them to assume the final phase of the work called upon by the Holy Spirit. Prayer, petitions, sacrifice and discernment has never wavered throughout these ten years.
The vision of Sacred Heart Communications is to ultimately have three radio stations in the Diocese: One in Charlotte, one in the Triad & one in Asheville with all of these stations broadcasting in English and Spanish. These areas are where the density of Catholics is the greatest within the Diocese.
In Charlotte, the station will be utilized by Belmont Abbey College for internships for media & communications majors. There is a second group in Asheville working to bring a station there. The third is expected to be in the Triad area. Currently there is no one heading up the effort in the Triad. The purchased station determines the reach so it is difficult to predict who will be within hearing distance. At some point future transponders stations may be purchased to reach the farthest corners of the state. We expect because of the location of the state of North Carolina, these stations may well reach other states such as into SC, Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia.(Charlotte-SC), (Asheville-Tennessee with additional transponder stations-reaching Georgia from SW corner) and (Triad-Virginia) |
